TUCSON, Ariz. – Southern Arizona will bake under dangerous heat this week, with highs expected to reach 107 degrees by Thursday as the National Weather Service issues an Extreme Heat Watch for Tucson and surrounding Pima County.

According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, storm chances return as early as Monday evening, with a stronger risk Tuesday and Wednesday when 30% chances of thunderstorms overlap with soaring triple-digit heat. Isolated cells may bring lightning, gusty winds, and localized flooding.

Daytime highs will climb steadily, hitting 104 degrees Tuesday and peaking between 106 and 107 Wednesday and Thursday. Overnight lows near 80 offer little relief, especially in urban areas where heat lingers after sunset. Heat-related illness risk is highest during the afternoon, with officials urging residents to stay indoors, hydrate frequently, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

Evening storms may briefly cool conditions but can create hazardous driving with blowing dust and sudden downpours on I-10 and local roads. Power outages are also possible where strong outflow winds hit.

Extreme heat is expected to hold through at least Thursday, with only slight relief as highs dip closer to 105 by the weekend. Additional advisories may be issued if storm activity intensifies.
