New Munster, Wisconsin – Rising waters on the Fox River near New Munster continue to affect homes and roadways, with flooding expected to persist through early Tuesday morning. Residents in Salem Lakes and Wheatland have already seen water in their yards and on local streets, including over 3 inches flooding parts of 77th Street.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, the Fox River stood at 11.6 feet as of Friday afternoon—well above its flood stage of 11.0 feet. Although levels have begun a gradual decline, forecasts show the river won’t dip below flood stage until Monday evening.
Low-lying properties along Riverside Drive and Shorewood Drive remain vulnerable to additional flooding through the weekend. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roadways and obey all detours. “Turn around, don’t drown” remains a critical safety reminder, especially after dark or during heavy rainfall.
The flood crest—peaking near 11.7 feet late Thursday—mirrors historical highs recorded in 2002. With more rain possible over the weekend, residents are encouraged to monitor updates and prepare for changing conditions.
Flood warnings remain in effect through at least Tuesday. Future advisories could be issued if rainfall accelerates river flow again.
