PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Strong storms are expected across southeastern Pennsylvania this afternoon, with the National Weather Service issuing a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for 12 counties, including Philadelphia, Montgomery, Lancaster, and Bucks, until 8 p.m. Saturday.

According to the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla., storms may bring damaging winds up to 60 mph, large hail, and frequent lightning. The watch zone stretches from the Lehigh Valley south into York and Delaware counties, with the greatest risk for fast-moving storms during the late afternoon and early evening commute.

Emergency managers warn that scattered power outages are possible if trees and power lines are knocked down. Drivers along I-76, I-95, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike may encounter sudden downpours that could reduce visibility. Outdoor events in Philadelphia and Allentown face disruption, with safety officials urging people to seek sturdy shelter at the first sign of thunder.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items, charge devices in case of outages, and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain and gusty winds. Storms are expected to weaken after sunset, but additional watches or warnings may be issued if the line of storms intensifies.
