Wilmington, North Carolina – High tide and a full moon are setting the stage for minor coastal flooding in downtown Wilmington from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, with the lowest areas near the Cape Fear River—including North Carolina and Battleship Roads—at risk for water over roadways and storm drains backing up. Evening travel could be impacted by ponding and detours, as water creeps above curb level in flood-prone blocks.

According to the National Weather Service, a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect, warning that up to half a foot of water could cover low-lying streets through the heart of downtown Wilmington. While tonight poses the greatest risk, minor issues could linger Tuesday during high tides. Additional areas along the lower Cape Fear, especially near Market Street and Water Street, are vulnerable as tides peak.

Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads, use alternate routes, and not drive around barricades. Park on higher ground if possible. No major rain is forecast Monday, but the ground remains saturated, and scattered thunderstorms are expected to redevelop late Tuesday through Thursday. Isolated heavy downpours could briefly worsen flooding during this period.

Flood alerts may be extended if conditions worsen, especially with another round of storms likely by midweek. Stay tuned for updates and be prepared for quick changes in weather.
