Southeastern Michigan is under a flood watch until Sunday morning due to continued heavy rainfall and another storm system predicted to hit the region tonight.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, new rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are expected this afternoon and tonight, on top of the 2 to 4 inches that fell in the Tri Cities area on Friday. This persistent rain raises the potential for flooding in streams, rivers, and other prone areas.
The weather service highlights two critical periods for heavy rainfall: between noon and 6 p.m. Saturday, and again after midnight. Isolated urban flooding is anticipated, particularly in the vicinity of Saginaw Bay, where showers and thunderstorms will likely result in rainfall totals exceeding one inch.
Residents are advised to remain weather-aware and prepared to act on flood warnings. The weather service urges having multiple ways to receive updates and emergency information. The next scheduled briefing is planned for this afternoon to provide further updates on the developing situation.
