Detroit, MI – Southeastern Michigan residents should prepare for a period of severe weather, with scattered thunderstorms and a heat advisory affecting the area through Saturday. The National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac has issued warnings for both strong thunderstorms and excessive heat.

According to the National Weather Service, the most intense thunderstorms are expected in the afternoons and evenings. Wind gusts could reach up to 60 mph, accompanied by torrential rainfall that may result in localized flash flooding. These conditions pose significant threats, including strong winds, frequent lightning, and flash flooding.

Additionally, a heat advisory remains in effect until 10 p.m. today for Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Wayne, Lenawee, and Monroe counties. The advisory warns of peak afternoon heat index values ranging from the low to mid-90s. The stalled front over the area is creating a thermal gradient, leading to cooler conditions near Lake Huron but maintaining extreme heat around Detroit and its surrounding areas.
