Boston, MA – Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island are under a Winter Weather Advisory starting at 1 p.m. Sunday, with snowfall expected to accumulate between 3 and 6 inches by early Monday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the heaviest snowfall is expected between 6 p.m. Sunday and midnight, with rates of up to 1 inch per hour. While the snow is forecast to taper off before the Monday morning commute, untreated roads will likely remain slippery due to sub-freezing temperatures.
The advisory affects communities including Plymouth, Taunton, Fall River, Brockton, Newport, and Warwick. Snow may initially start as rain before transitioning to steady snowfall by late afternoon.
Travelers are urged to exercise caution, particularly during the evening hours when visibility may decrease significantly. Those planning to drive should allow extra time and consider avoiding nonessential travel during peak snowfall.
The NWS advises slowing down, leaving ample space between vehicles, and preparing emergency kits for travel. Residents should also monitor local updates for changes in the storm’s trajectory or intensity.
The advisory will remain in effect until 7 a.m. Monday.
