Barnstable, Mass. – Powerful winds are expected to lash Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket beginning Thursday evening, with gusts strong enough to knock down tree limbs and cause isolated power outages. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory effective from 5 p.m. Thursday until 2 p.m. Friday.
According to the National Weather Service office in Boston, northeast winds will reach sustained speeds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts peaking near 45 mph. The advisory includes Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket counties, where exposed coastlines and ferry routes could see the greatest impact.
Travel may become hazardous for high-profile vehicles on bridges and open roadways, while ferries to and from the islands could face delays or cancellations. Utility crews are on alert for downed wires, and residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture, trash bins, and other loose items before winds intensify.
The strongest gusts are expected overnight into Friday morning before gradually easing by early afternoon. Residents should prepare for possible spotty outages and use extra caution if traveling.
