A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for southeastern Connecticut early Thursday, with accumulating snow expected to impact the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, the advisory covers New London County, including both northern and southern portions of the county. The advisory is scheduled to remain in effect until 10 a.m. EST Thursday.

Forecasters expect total snow accumulations between 1 and 3 inches before the snow tapers off later in the morning. While snowfall amounts are relatively light, even minor accumulations can lead to slick and hazardous travel conditions, especially on untreated roads.

The National Weather Service warned that slippery road conditions may develop overnight and persist into the early morning hours, potentially affecting commuters heading to work or school. Bridges, overpasses, and secondary roads are expected to become icy first.

Officials urged drivers to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time during the advisory period. Pedestrians are also advised to use caution on sidewalks, stairs, and driveways, which may become snow-covered and slippery.

Transportation officials recommend checking the latest road conditions through local Department of Transportation information services before heading out, particularly during the peak commute hours.

The advisory is expected to expire by mid-morning as conditions gradually improve, though lingering slick spots may remain on shaded or untreated surfaces.
