Cheyenne, WY – The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has issued a High Wind Watch for portions of southeast Wyoming beginning late Wednesday night and continuing through Thursday, with gusts up to 65 mph possible.
Forecasters say sustained winds of 35–50 mph will develop overnight, strengthening into Thursday morning. The strongest winds are expected near Arlington, Elk Mountain, Bordeaux, and the Laramie Range foothills, where travel along Interstate 80 and Interstate 25 may become hazardous.
According to the National Weather Service, the watch includes:
- Arlington/Elk Mountain: 2 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday
- Bordeaux/Central Laramie County: 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday
- Summit/Foothills: 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday
- East Laramie County: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday
High-profile and lightweight vehicles, including campers and trailers, should use extreme caution or delay travel until winds subside. Drivers can monitor updates and road conditions by dialing 511 or visiting wyoroad.info.
These winds are part of a strong pressure gradient sweeping across the region, bringing increased fire danger and localized blowing dust in open areas.
