Cheyenne, Wyoming – Dangerous wind conditions are expected across southeast Wyoming as High Wind Warnings take effect overnight, with gusts reaching up to 65 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne.

All previously issued High Wind Watches have been upgraded to High Wind Warnings, which will be in effect from midnight tonight through 2 p.m. Tuesday. The strongest winds are expected overnight and into Tuesday morning, creating hazardous travel conditions, particularly for high-profile and lightweight vehicles.

The warning covers much of southeast Wyoming, including areas near Cheyenne, Laramie, Wheatland, Torrington, and Arlington, as well as portions of the Interstate 80 and Interstate 25 corridors. Wind-prone locations such as Arlington and the Shirley Basin are especially susceptible to sudden, intense gusts.

According to the National Weather Service, wind gusts up to 65 mph can make driving difficult and unpredictable. Campers, semitrailers, delivery trucks, and vehicles towing trailers are at the greatest risk of losing control or being blown off course. Even experienced drivers may encounter sudden crosswinds, especially in open areas and near mountain gaps.

Blowing dust and debris may also reduce visibility at times, adding to the travel hazards. Loose outdoor objects can be blown around, and minor damage such as downed tree limbs or power interruptions is possible.

Officials urge travelers to use caution if driving overnight or Tuesday, consider delaying travel if operating high-profile vehicles, and remain alert for rapidly changing road conditions. Drivers are encouraged to check road and travel conditions before departure by calling 511.

The National Weather Service advises residents to secure loose outdoor items and stay informed as conditions develop through Tuesday afternoon.
