Cheyenne, Wyoming – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for southeast Wyoming beginning 11 a.m. Sunday as a fast-moving snow system targets the Sierra Madre and Snowy Ranges with up to 10 inches of accumulation and dangerous whiteout conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, the advisory remains active through 5 a.m. Monday. Snow totals of 5 to 10 inches are possible, with blowing snow creating near-zero visibility in exposed mountain areas. Gusty winds are expected to intensify the impact, especially above 8,000 feet.
Travelers near Saratoga, Baggs, and Arlington should expect snow-covered roads and sudden visibility drops on highways such as WY-130 and WY-230. Outdoor recreation is strongly discouraged in these regions during the advisory window due to the risk of disorientation from drifting snow.
Those venturing into the backcountry are urged to delay plans, check avalanche conditions, and carry emergency supplies.
The advisory expires early Monday morning, but additional snowfall or wind may prolong hazardous travel into the start of the workweek.
