MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The early November sun rises through a veil of dry air over the Lake Michigan shoreline this morning, bringing warmth and wind — a tricky mix for outdoor burning or fieldwork across southern Wisconsin. Though skies stay bright, gusty conditions will make fire spread easier through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, an elevated fire weather risk is in effect today for much of southern and eastern Wisconsin, including Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, and Dane Counties. Breezy west winds of 20 to 30 mph and relative humidity dropping near 25% will combine to create dry, fast-moving fire conditions.

Officials stress that fuels aren’t overly dry yet, but even small grass or debris fires could grow quickly in this setup. Residents are urged to delay any outdoor burning, secure equipment that might spark, and use caution near open fields or construction zones. Drivers should also be aware of blowing dust in open areas along I-94 and I-43 this afternoon.

Temperatures will reach the upper 50s today with plenty of sun. Conditions calm slightly by Tuesday as winds ease and humidity improves. The next notable change comes late Thursday, when a developing front may bring scattered showers and a taste of November chill into Friday.

For now, Wisconsin enjoys a mild, sunny stretch — but residents are reminded to stay fire-aware as gusty, dry weather continues to dominate through midweek.
