MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Life-threatening flash flooding is inundating parts of southeast Wisconsin early Sunday, with law enforcement reporting stranded vehicles, flooded basements and submerged streets across Milwaukee and Waukesha counties. Some areas have seen between 5 and 9 inches of rain overnight, with more downpours expected before sunrise.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, flash flood warnings remain in effect until at least 5:30 a.m. for Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee and Washington counties. Additional rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is possible, worsening already dangerous conditions.
In Germantown, flooding has been reported on Interstate 41 at County Line Road, while streets in Mequon, Cedarburg, and Grafton remain under water. In Milwaukee, multiple underpasses are closed, and police have urged drivers to stay off the roads.
Residents are urged to avoid travel, never attempt to drive through flooded areas, and be alert for basement flooding and rising creek levels. Overnight flooding is especially hazardous due to poor visibility.
Warnings remain in place through early morning, with further alerts possible if storms persist.
