Milwaukee, Wis. – Unhealthy air will continue to blanket much of Wisconsin through at least noon Saturday, as wildfire smoke lingers and keeps air quality at hazardous levels for sensitive groups—and, at times, everyone.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, an Air Quality Advisory remains in effect for the region, including Milwaukee, Madison, Waukesha, Racine, and surrounding counties. The advisory warns that fine particle pollution from smoke is expected to remain “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” and could reach “Unhealthy for All” by this evening and overnight.
Sensitive individuals—including children, the elderly, and those with heart or lung conditions—are urged to avoid outdoor activities and keep windows closed. All residents should limit strenuous outdoor work, especially along major highways like I-94 and I-43, where visibility may be further reduced. School and outdoor events may see delays or cancellations as the smoke thickens. Residents should use air purifiers if possible and check on neighbors who may be at greater risk.
This smoke event, reminiscent of last summer’s Canadian wildfire haze, is expected to gradually improve by midday Saturday as winds shift. Further advisories may be issued if conditions worsen or linger longer than expected.
Warnings remain in effect for all of Southeast Wisconsin until at least noon Saturday. Check for updates from local health departments and the National Weather Service.
