Beckley, WV – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon today for portions of southeast and northeast West Virginia, where a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain continues to cause hazardous travel conditions early Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, areas including Beckley, Snowshoe, Marlinton, Richwood, and Harman are experiencing light snow and freezing rain, with total snow accumulations around one inch and a light glaze of ice possible. Wind gusts up to 35 mph may also lead to isolated power line icing or scattered slick spots on exposed roadways.

Roads, bridges, and sidewalks are expected to remain slippery through the morning, especially along mountain passes and elevated areas. Travel along U.S. 19, WV-39, and the Highland Scenic Highway may be slow and treacherous at times due to icy patches and reduced visibility.

The weather service urges drivers to use caution, reduce speeds, and avoid sudden braking. Pedestrians should also be alert for icy stairs, sidewalks, and driveways.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve by midday as temperatures rise above freezing and precipitation transitions to light rain or drizzle.
