Jacksonville, FL – An overnight Freeze Warning has been issued for parts of north Florida and southeast Georgia, with temperatures expected to drop below freezing between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville.
Forecasters say sub-freezing lows as cold as 29°F are possible across inland areas, including Waycross, Douglas, Live Oak, Lake City, and Folkston. The warning covers portions of Baker, Suwannee, Union, and Gilchrist counties in Florida, and Appling, Wayne, Coffee, and Brantley counties in Georgia.
Officials urge residents to protect sensitive vegetation, outdoor pets, and exposed plumbing, as frost and hard freezes could occur before sunrise. The NWS also reminds the public to check on elderly neighbors, children, and those without adequate shelter, who are most vulnerable to the cold.
“This will be one of the coldest mornings of the season so far,” meteorologists said, noting that winds will remain light, allowing temperatures to dip quickly before dawn.
Temperatures are expected to rebound into the 50s and lower 60s by Saturday afternoon, with another chilly night possible before a gradual warming trend late weekend.
