VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia – Wind howls through the dunes as foamy waves crash against the shoreline under slate-gray skies. Water sprays across boardwalk railings while palm-shaped flags strain against 40 mph gusts — a raw reminder that fall storms along the Mid-Atlantic coast can rival winter’s bite.

A Wind Advisory, High Surf Advisory, and Coastal Flood Advisory remain in effect today as a powerful nor’easter churns offshore. The National Weather Service in Wakefield warns of gusts up to 45 mph and persistent northeast winds pushing water onto low-lying roads and bayside neighborhoods. Tides are expected to run 1 to 2 feet above normal, with the highest impacts expected near Lynnhaven Inlet, the Oceanfront, and Sandbridge.

Periods of heavy rain continue through Tuesday, with localized flooding possible in poor-drainage areas and along portions of Route 60 and I-264 during the morning commute. Rain gradually eases Wednesday afternoon, but winds stay brisk through the evening as the system slowly exits the coast.

By Thursday, conditions improve dramatically — mostly sunny skies return with highs near 68°F and a lighter breeze. Halloween Friday looks calm and comfortable, with daytime highs in the low 60s and evening readings in the upper 50s — ideal for trick-or-treating along the coast or inland.

The weekend turns even nicer: sunny, mild, and seasonably dry with highs in the mid-60s both Saturday and Sunday. After this week’s turbulent weather, Virginia Beach can look forward to a quiet stretch before a chillier November pattern starts to take shape.
