Virginia Beach, VA – Residents and visitors in Virginia Beach should prepare for possible interruptions to outdoor activities Tuesday as thunderstorms move into the region after 11 a.m., bringing brief heavy rain and gusty winds. The storms are expected to be most active in the afternoon before tapering off by evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, Tuesday’s high will reach about 83°F, with a 40% chance of storms. Any rainfall is expected to be light for most areas, but isolated cells could bring heavier bursts. Gusts along the shore may make beach umbrellas and tents unstable, and lightning could force closures at parks, sports fields, and outdoor venues.

This weather event follows a moderate rip current risk on Monday for beaches from Virginia Beach to northeast North Carolina, making swimming conditions hazardous during the day.

While conditions are expected to improve midweek, scattered showers remain possible Wednesday before sunnier, warmer weather returns Thursday and Friday.
