Norfolk, Virginia – Drivers along the Virginia coast should prepare for nuisance to minor coastal flooding late Thursday evening into tonight, with tidal waters threatening low-lying streets from Norfolk to Williamsburg. According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a Coastal Flood Statement remains in effect, especially for areas bordering the Chesapeake Bay and tidal rivers, where high tides could push water onto vulnerable roads and yards through early Friday.
Communities such as Norfolk, Williamsburg, and Tappahannock are expected to see the greatest impacts, particularly during the late evening high tide cycle. Portions of Accomac and southeastern Virginia, including Elizabeth City, could also experience minor disruptions. While flooding is expected to remain minor, standing water on roads and reduced visibility after sunset may cause travel slowdowns. Residents are urged to move vehicles from flood-prone streets and avoid walking through water.
The rest of Virginia can expect a cool, pleasant Friday with high temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s. Rain chances will increase mainly across southeast Virginia and northeastern North Carolina, but most inland areas should stay dry with thickening afternoon clouds.
Coastal flooding risk may linger into early Saturday before tides begin to recede. Further updates or new advisories could be issued if conditions worsen.
