TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A small-scale low-pressure swirl near Mobile, Alabama, is pushing widespread rain and storms across Alabama, Georgia, and Florida today, bringing the potential for heavy downpours and wind gusts topping 30 mph. The system is expected to track east through the day, affecting both inland and coastal areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, rainbands tied to the swirl will produce localized flooding in low-lying spots and reduced visibility on highways, particularly along I-10 and U.S. 231. The heaviest rain this morning was developing near Columbus, Georgia, and Tallahassee, with additional storms firing south toward Panama City and Gainesville by afternoon.

Drivers are urged to slow down in heavy rain and avoid flooded roads, as standing water could cause hydroplaning. Outdoor plans, especially along Gulf beaches, may be disrupted by sudden downpours and occasional lightning. Winds within stronger rainbands could also knock down small tree limbs and power lines.

The unsettled pattern is expected to linger into tonight, with rain tapering west to east after midnight. More showers could return later this week as Gulf moisture remains in place.
