Charleston, SC – A heightened fire danger is in effect across Southeast South Carolina and Georgia through Saturday evening due to dry conditions, gusty winds, and low humidity.

According to the National Weather Service, southwest winds of 15-20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph, combined with relative humidity levels as low as 20%, will create conditions conducive to wildfires. The risk is expected to persist into the weekend, with winds picking up again on Saturday.

Authorities urge residents to check with local burn permitting offices before lighting any fires and to use extreme caution if burning is permitted.
