Houston, TX – Forecasters are warning of strong to severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across Southeast Texas beginning Monday afternoon and lasting through early Tuesday morning, as a cold front moves through the region, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Houston/Galveston.
Scattered showers are expected in the morning, followed by an increasing chance for stronger storms by late afternoon, particularly along and north of the I-10 corridor. Highs will reach the low to mid-80s, with a noticeable drop into the upper 50s to 60s overnight behind the front.
The NWS cautions that some storms may become strong to severe, capable of producing damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. Locally heavy rainfall could also lead to localized flooding in areas that receive prolonged downpours.
Residents are urged to remain alert and have multiple ways to receive warnings. “Stay weather-aware,” the NWS emphasized in its update, noting that the most intense storms will likely develop Monday evening into early Tuesday morning.
Motorists should prepare for reduced visibility, slick roads, and ponding water, especially during the late commute hours Monday night.
