Lake Charles, LA – A prolonged dry weather pattern is settling over southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana, bringing sunshine, warm afternoons, and growing concern for rapid-onset drought conditions, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lake Charles.

The agency said Friday morning that high pressure aloft will keep a dry air mass locked over the region, eliminating any chance of significant rainfall through next week. Daily rain chances are forecast to remain at or near 0% through at least Thursday, October 16.

According to the NWS, breezy northeast winds combined with low afternoon humidity will create an elevated risk for grass and marsh fires this weekend. Temperatures are expected to reach the upper 80s to near 90°F each afternoon, with comfortable lows in the upper 50s to mid-60s overnight.

Forecasters also issued a small craft advisory for offshore waters through 1 p.m. Friday, with gusts up to 25 knots expected before winds gradually decrease over the weekend.

While the dry conditions will make for pleasant outdoor weather, residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and to monitor local advisories as drought conditions could develop quickly.
