Lake Charles, LA – Residents across southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas are in for a major weather shift as the first strong cold front of the season arrives Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles.

Warm, calm conditions will continue through Tuesday afternoon, with highs in the low to mid-80s. But by Tuesday night, a sharp cold front will sweep through the region, bringing scattered showers and possible thunderstorms along with gusty north winds up to 25 knots along the coast.

Behind the front, temperatures are expected to drop roughly 20 degrees — with highs only reaching the 60s by Wednesday and lows falling into the 40s by Thursday morning. Marine forecasts show rougher conditions midweek, with seas building to 6–9 feet on Wednesday before calming by Thursday.

Forecasters say the end of the week looks sunny and mild, with afternoon highs near 70 and light winds returning by Friday.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, prepare for cooler mornings, and use caution on the water Tuesday night through Wednesday due to strong winds and elevated seas.
