Houston, TX – A Red Flag Warning is in effect for portions of Southeast Texas, including the Brazos Valley and Houston County, as elevated to critical fire weather conditions persist through Friday evening. The warning remains in place until 9 p.m. CDT, with a Fire Weather Watch extending into Saturday evening.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Houston/Galveston, southwest winds of 15 to 20 mph, gusting up to 30 mph, combined with relative humidity levels as low as 19%, will create conditions favorable for rapid wildfire spread. Temperatures are expected to reach the upper 80s, further intensifying the fire risk.

The Brazos Valley, including Madison, Burleson, Brazos, Washington, and Grimes counties, faces the most immediate threat, with winds shifting to a westerly direction on Saturday, potentially expanding fire risks to additional areas. Houston County will also experience heightened fire danger, with humidity levels ranging from the mid-20s to around 30%.

Residents are urged to avoid activities that could spark wildfires, including outdoor burning and equipment use that generates sparks. Authorities recommend keeping emergency fire preparedness plans in place and staying updated with local emergency alerts.

A Fire Weather Watch remains in effect for Saturday afternoon through the evening, with officials warning of continued critical conditions. The public is advised to monitor updates from the NWS and local authorities for any potential extension of warnings or emergency directives.
