Houston, TX – An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect for southeast Texas, including the Houston metro area, until 9 a.m. Wednesday, as wind chills drop to 10-15°F.

According to the National Weather Service, dangerously low temperatures are impacting areas such as Brazos, Montgomery, Fort Bend, and Galveston counties. Residents should take precautions to avoid prolonged exposure to the cold, which can lead to hypothermia.

Outdoor activities should be minimized. If venturing outside, wear layered clothing, including a hat, gloves, and a face mask to protect exposed skin. Pipes should be wrapped or drained to prevent freezing. Pets should be brought indoors, and outdoor animals must have access to warm shelter and unfrozen water.

Older neighbors and family members should be checked on regularly to ensure their safety. Additionally, avoid using generators or grills indoors to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

Conditions are expected to improve after 9 a.m. Wednesday as temperatures begin to rise. For updates and additional safety information, visit the National Weather Service website or local emergency channels.
