Lake Charles, La. – Heat and humidity will dominate this week across southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana, with daily highs in the lower to mid-90s and frequent chances for afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Storm coverage will be highest Monday and Tuesday, when rain chances climb to 70% in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, storms will be scattered today before becoming more widespread early in the week. Rain could be locally heavy, especially along and south of I-10. Overnight lows will stay muggy in the low to upper 70s, offering little relief from the heat.

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring two tropical disturbances in the Atlantic. One system near the Cabo Verde Islands has an 80% chance of developing into a tropical depression later this week, while another central Atlantic disturbance has a 20% chance. Neither poses a threat to the northern Gulf Coast.

Residents should plan for brief downpours, lightning, and possible ponding on roads during the afternoon and evening hours. This unsettled pattern will hold through Thursday, with no significant temperature drop expected.
