Grand Forks, ND – Dry and cool conditions will hold through the weekend, but a soaking rain arriving late Sunday could quickly create slick roads and travel slowdowns into Monday across eastern North Dakota.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, rain chances increase after 6 p.m. Sunday, with widespread rainfall continuing overnight into Monday. There is more than a 50% chance that parts of southeast North Dakota and into west-central Minnesota will receive at least 1 inch of rain by early Tuesday.

Cities including Fargo, Grand Forks, Wahpeton, and Devils Lake will see increasing cloud cover Sunday before rain develops from southwest to northeast. East winds of 10 to 20 mph Sunday will shift to stronger northeast winds up to 30 mph Monday, reducing visibility at times during steady rainfall. High temperatures will remain in the 50s, limiting evaporation and keeping roads wet for extended periods.

Drivers along Interstate 29 and U.S. Highway 2 should prepare for ponding water and reduced visibility, especially during Monday morning and evening commutes. Agricultural areas may also see field saturation after the rainfall.

Conditions begin to improve late Monday into early Tuesday as rain tapers off, but additional updates are expected if rainfall totals increase or flooding concerns expand.
