Tallahassee, FL – Light rain is returning this weekend, but it will do little to address the deepening drought already impacting water supplies, agriculture, and fire conditions across North Florida and South Georgia.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, rainfall totals from Friday through early next week will generally stay under 1 inch across the region. Many areas—including Tallahassee, Valdosta, and Dothan—may see only a few tenths of an inch, with some locations receiving little to no measurable rain.

The limited rainfall comes as the region faces a significant long-term deficit. Since October 1, rainfall totals are running 8 to 16 inches below normal across much of the Florida Panhandle and southwest Georgia. Cities such as Albany, Bainbridge, and Apalachicola remain firmly in drought conditions, with dry soils and stressed vegetation already widespread.

While scattered showers may develop Saturday into Sunday, coverage will be inconsistent, meaning some neighborhoods could miss rain entirely. No widespread soaking rainfall is expected, and any showers will move through quickly without sustained accumulation.

Residents should continue water conservation efforts and remain cautious with outdoor burning, as dry conditions persist despite the brief return of rain chances. The pattern remains largely dry beyond early next week, and additional updates are expected if more meaningful rainfall develops.
