Wilmington, N.C. – Residents along the lower Cape Fear River could see minor flooding during evening high tides through the coming week, with the most immediate impacts expected Saturday night. The National Weather Service warns of a two to three-hour flood window surrounding each evening tide from Wilmington southward, raising concerns for low-lying neighborhoods and riverfront roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, the flood threat will persist nightly through Friday as high tide cycles overlap with increased storm activity. Scattered thunderstorms are expected Sunday and into early next week, with rainfall totals reaching up to a half inch in some areas. This will add to water levels already stressed by the tidal surges.

Drivers along River Road and near downtown Wilmington should prepare for possible standing water during evening commutes. Emergency managers advise avoiding flooded roads, especially after dark when water depths can be deceiving.

Thunderstorms are most likely Sunday afternoon and again Monday through Tuesday, with gusty winds and heavy downpours possible. The strongest storms may occur during late afternoon hours, potentially disrupting outdoor plans and causing localized power outages.

The coastal flooding risk remains in place through Friday, and additional advisories may be issued if conditions worsen.
