Wilmington, North Carolina – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect across parts of southeast North Carolina and northeast South Carolina as snow and a light glaze of ice are expected to create hazardous travel conditions through Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, 4 to 8 inches of snow are forecast, along with around a light glaze of ice, from 1 a.m. Saturday through 4 p.m. EST Sunday.

The warning covers a broad area of southeast North Carolina, including Robeson, Bladen, Columbus, Pender, New Hanover, and Brunswick counties, and extends into northeast South Carolina, including Marlboro, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Marion, Williamsburg, Horry, and Georgetown counties. Communities impacted range from Wilmington, Leland, Southport, and Whiteville to Florence, Myrtle Beach, Conway, Georgetown, and North Myrtle Beach.

Forecasters warn that travel could be very difficult, especially during periods of steadier snowfall and where ice develops on untreated roads. Bridges, overpasses, and coastal roadways are expected to become slick. The combination of snow and ice may slow emergency response and road treatment efforts, particularly overnight.

While snowfall amounts vary by location, even modest ice accumulation can significantly increase the risk of accidents. Conditions may deteriorate rapidly late Friday night into Saturday morning and remain hazardous into Sunday.

The National Weather Service urges residents to delay travel if possible. Those who must travel should carry emergency supplies, including food, water, and a flashlight, and check current road conditions by calling 511.

Winter weather of this scope is uncommon for the coastal Carolinas and may lead to prolonged disruptions for commuters, weekend travelers, and service workers. Residents are encouraged to monitor official updates as conditions evolve.
