Albany, NY – A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for southeast New York until 10 PM this evening. The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center has issued Severe Thunderstorm Watch #634, covering a large portion of the region.

According to the NWS, thunderstorms are expected to develop and intensify this afternoon as temperatures rise and cloud cover erodes. The primary threats include damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, frequent lightning, and isolated hail up to ping pong ball size. Thunderstorms have already started forming over the Appalachians, with additional storms expected to move eastward into lower elevations by evening.

Residents in the affected areas should prepare for potentially hazardous weather conditions and stay informed of any updates as storms move through the region. The severe thunderstorm watch indicates that the conditions are favorable for severe weather, and everyone in the area should remain alert until the watch expires at 10 PM.
