Midland, TX – The National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa has issued a Freeze Watch for parts of West Texas and Southeast New Mexico, warning of subfreezing temperatures expected late Sunday night through Monday morning.

According to forecasters, temperatures may fall as low as 30°F, with the coldest readings likely across the Permian Basin, Eddy County Plains, and southern Lea County. Areas including Big Spring, Andrews, Stanton, and Carlsbad could all see frost or light freeze conditions by early Monday.

The freeze watch is in effect from late Sunday night through Monday morning, marking the first widespread freeze of the season for much of the region. The cold could kill crops, damage sensitive plants, and affect unprotected outdoor plumbing, according to the weather service.

Residents are urged to bring pets indoors, cover or move tender plants, and wrap exposed pipes before temperatures dip below freezing.

This cold spell follows a stretch of mild fall weather, signaling a clear shift toward early winter conditions across West Texas and Southeast New Mexico.
