Cape Girardeau, MO – Southeast Missouri and southern Illinois are on alert today for severe weather, with damaging winds and potential isolated flooding expected. The National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky, issued a Slight Risk warning, noting that the primary threats will be strong winds and heavy rainfall. The greatest risk period is from 3 p.m. to midnight, when scattered thunderstorms are forecast to sweep through the region.

According to the National Weather Service, these storms could produce wind gusts strong enough to cause damage, along with heavy downpours leading to localized flooding. Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay indoors and secure any outdoor objects that could become airborne.

The storm threat will diminish by Friday, but scattered showers will persist, especially during the afternoon. Temperatures will remain high, reaching the low 90s. The weekend outlook shows a mix of conditions with lingering showers on Saturday and a clearer, cooler Sunday, where temperatures will drop to the mid-80s. Early next week, the weather should stabilize with mostly sunny skies and moderate temperatures in the low 80s.
