La Crosse, Wis. – A slow-moving rain system will drench parts of Wisconsin, southeast Minnesota, and northeast Iowa beginning Monday night, with some areas likely to see more than 2 inches by Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, rain will become widespread overnight Monday into Tuesday. The heaviest totals are expected in counties west of the Mississippi River, where confidence is high for accumulations over 2 inches, especially in areas like Decorah, Rochester, and Prairie du Chien. Travel could be impacted, particularly along I-90 and secondary roads prone to standing water.

Localized flooding is possible, and residents are urged to monitor river levels and check for road closures. Thunderstorms may accompany the rain Monday night into Tuesday, adding to the rainfall totals. The weather service notes that the axis of highest precipitation may shift, so ongoing updates are critical.

Communities in the potential high-impact zone should prepare now: avoid non-essential travel during heavy rainfall, secure outdoor items, and ensure sump pumps and drainage systems are functioning.

Rain is expected to taper off by early Wednesday, but additional alerts or warnings may be issued as conditions evolve.
