La Crosse, WI – A Wind Advisory has been issued for parts of southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa as strong northwest winds are expected to develop Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in La Crosse.

The advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. CDT Tuesday for Floyd, Mitchell, Chickasaw, and Howard Counties in Iowa, and Dodge, Fillmore, Mower, and Olmsted Counties in Minnesota. This includes the cities of Rochester, Austin, Preston, Charles City, Cresco, and Osage.

Forecasters expect sustained northwest winds of 25 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph during the afternoon. The NWS cautions that the strong winds could blow around unsecured items, break small branches, and cause isolated power outages.

Drivers of high-profile vehicles should use extra caution on open highways, and residents are encouraged to secure outdoor decorations and trash bins ahead of the wind event.

Conditions are expected to improve by Tuesday evening as the front moves east and winds gradually weaken.
