Detroit, MI – Drivers across southeast Michigan should brace for slow travel and hazardous conditions late Saturday as a potent snowstorm moves in, bringing 5 to 9 inches of accumulation by Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are in effect from 3 p.m. Saturday through 10 a.m. Sunday. Snowfall will intensify Saturday evening into the overnight hours, with the heaviest totals expected along the I-96 corridor and areas including Pontiac, Howell, Adrian, and Detroit’s northwestern suburbs.
Flint, Ann Arbor, and Monroe are likely to see 5 to 7 inches, while localized bands could push totals near 9 inches in counties under the Winter Storm Warning. Visibility may drop significantly at times, and untreated roads will become slick and dangerous.
Officials urge drivers to avoid non-essential travel Saturday night and early Sunday, and to allow extra time if heading out. Road crews will be active, but snowfall rates could outpace initial treatment efforts.
Warnings remain in effect through 10 a.m. Sunday, and additional advisories may be issued if conditions worsen overnight.
