DETROIT, Mich. – Showers and thunderstorms are set to roll through Detroit and much of southeast Michigan Sunday, bringing the risk of heavy downpours and gusty winds that could impact morning and afternoon travel. Storms are most likely before 11 a.m. and again in the early afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, rainfall totals will generally remain under a tenth of an inch, though isolated thunderstorms could deliver higher amounts. Winds out of the north will increase to 7 to 11 mph Sunday afternoon with gusts up to 18 mph possible, especially in open areas.

The greatest impacts will be felt across Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties, where brief but heavy showers could slow drivers on I-75 and I-94. Outdoor events in Detroit and Dearborn may see disruptions until conditions improve later Sunday night, when skies turn partly cloudy and temperatures dip to the mid-60s.

Monday looks calmer, with mostly sunny skies and highs near 80 offering a brief break before another round of scattered storms develops Tuesday afternoon.

Showers and storms remain a possibility Tuesday night, with clearing skies and warmer, more stable weather returning midweek.
