Detroit, Michigan –  A stretch of hot and humid weather has arrived in Southeast Michigan, raising heat indices into the mid-90s through the weekend and bringing a chance for thunderstorms today, especially in the Thumb region. According to the National Weather Service in Detroit, showers and storms could develop through Thursday with a 15 to 30 percent chance, mostly north of I-69, as a southerly wind moves through at 5 to 15 mph.

Temperatures are expected to climb steadily, reaching the upper 80s today and staying warm overnight, with lows barely dropping below 70 in many areas. Friday and Saturday will both bring partly cloudy skies, but the main story will be the lingering humidity and highs pushing into the lower 90s—conditions that could strain local power grids and impact outdoor plans. Emergency officials urge residents to limit strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets.

While no widespread severe weather is expected, isolated thunderstorms could produce brief downpours or gusty winds, especially in rural Thumb counties. The hot pattern will continue through Saturday, with more advisories possible if heat intensifies or storms become more organized.
