Detroit, Michigan – Thunderstorms are expected to roll across southeast Michigan late tonight into Tuesday morning as a strong cold front sweeps through the region, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures by midweek. Morning commuters in Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Flint could face periods of heavy rain, gusty winds, and brief thunder before conditions dry out by Tuesday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, scattered storms will move into the Saginaw Valley and Thumb areas this evening, expanding south overnight. Rain will continue through Tuesday morning before tapering off by midday. Winds will shift to the west behind the front, ushering in cooler and drier air.
Daytime highs Tuesday will reach the upper 60s to low 70s before falling into the 50s by evening. By Wednesday, much of Michigan will see sunshine return, though temperatures will hover in the upper 50s to low 60s with lows dipping into the 30s and 40s overnight.
Residents are urged to stay alert for wet roads and brief power interruptions during the early morning storms. The National Weather Service says cooler, calm conditions will dominate the rest of the week with no additional rain expected through Friday.
