Michigan – The air feels sharp enough to sting this morning, and breath hangs in place across southeast Michigan. Side streets crunch under frozen tires, and exposed skin chills fast as an Arctic blast tightens its grip.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect through mid-morning as wind chills plunge as low as 25 below zero. Frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Actual temperatures are running well below zero in spots, with little relief expected early.

Conditions stay harsh through the day, even as sunshine breaks through at times. Highs struggle to reach the single digits. Winds remain light, but the cold is intense enough to stress vehicles, plumbing, and heating systems. Pets should be kept indoors, and vulnerable neighbors checked on frequently.

Snow enters the picture late Sunday and continues into Monday. A long-duration system is expected to bring widespread snowfall across southern Michigan, including the Detroit metro. Accumulations of 3 to 7 inches are possible near Detroit and along the Michigan–Ohio border, with lesser amounts north of I-69. Roads along I-75, I-94, and I-96 could turn slick quickly as snow falls onto frozen pavement.

Flash freezing is a major concern. Any melting during daylight hours will refreeze rapidly after sunset, creating black ice on untreated roads and sidewalks. Monday’s commute may be slowed by lingering snow and icy patches.

Cold air holds firm into midweek. Wind chills may again approach 15 below zero, especially during early mornings. Snow chances taper by Tuesday, but icy travel remains possible.

Additional advisories may be issued as snow develops.
