Michigan – Cold air bites exposed skin as gray skies hang low over Southeast Michigan. Breath fogs instantly. Pavement stays stiff and icy as winter holds firm across the Detroit metro early this morning.

Temperatures sit near 11 degrees around Detroit, with wind chills hovering near -7 degrees, making even short trips uncomfortable. According to the National Weather Service office in Detroit/Pontiac, isolated snow showers remain possible at times, but the bigger concern is the cold. Winds stay light, yet the air mass itself is harsh enough to create dangerous conditions.

Light snow chances continue into today, especially north and west of the city. Any brief snow that melts during daylight may refreeze quickly after sunset. That raises the risk of slick conditions on I-75, I-94, and surface streets during evening travel.

Sunday brings more sunshine, but not much warmth. Highs struggle to reach the lower 20s, with wind chills remaining below zero at times. By Sunday night, temperatures drop back into the single digits, setting the stage for another cold start Monday.

A weak system may bring a chance of snow Monday, though accumulations look limited for now. Still, even minor snowfall could snarl traffic when combined with ongoing cold. Tuesday offers a slight improvement, with highs nearing the upper 20s and partial sunshine.

Looking ahead to midweek, colder-than-normal conditions persist across the Great Lakes. Long-range outlooks hint at below-average precipitation but continued temperature swings into early February. With the Great Lakes already heavily iced over, cold air has little resistance lingering across Michigan.

Drivers should allow extra time, watch for black ice, and keep emergency supplies handy. Limit prolonged outdoor exposure, and check on neighbors who may need help staying warm. How cold did it feel where you are this morning?
