DETROIT, MI – Low clouds stretch over the skyline this Tuesday morning, soft rain beginning to patter across car roofs as fall’s next change takes shape. After a brief lull early today, several rounds of showers—and even a rumble or two of thunder—are expected to move through metro Detroit through midweek, ushering in a cooler, breezier pattern by Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, widespread rain will develop late Tuesday afternoon and continue into Wednesday, with gusty south winds up to 25 mph along I-94 and the Detroit River. Heavier downpours are possible Tuesday evening, briefly reducing visibility for commuters. Total rainfall may approach half an inch by Wednesday morning, followed by lingering light showers through early Thursday.

Highs near 61°F Tuesday will drop steadily after the front passes. By Wednesday, daytime readings fall into the low 50s under steady clouds and west winds. Thursday morning could start in the upper 30s to low 40s across Wayne and Washtenaw Counties—just enough for an early taste of late-fall chill. Rural spots north of the city could dip near the mid-30s by Friday morning, hinting at Detroit’s first First Fall Freeze potential as clear skies settle in.

Residents should expect wet roads, slippery leaves, and cooler air for the second half of the week. By Friday, sunshine returns with highs in the mid-50s and crisp, dry air—ideal for raking leaves or prepping outdoor decorations before Halloween week begins.
