Detroit, MI – A sharp cooldown is on the way for southeast Michigan this weekend, with a mix of rain and snow expected to impact the region late Saturday night through Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, much colder air will settle in across the area beginning Saturday evening. Rain is forecast to mix with and change to snow overnight, with the best chance for light accumulation—around one inch—north of metro Detroit and south of the Tri-Cities region.
Forecasters note that temperatures hovering near freezing and periods of rain may limit accumulation, particularly in and around the Detroit metro area. However, conditions are expected to turn noticeably colder Sunday night, with temperatures dropping into the 20s by early Monday morning.
Highs on Monday will remain in the 30s as scattered lake effect snow showers linger into Tuesday. While widespread travel impacts are not expected, drivers could encounter slick spots early Monday where snow accumulates overnight.
The National Weather Service urges residents to monitor updates through the weekend as conditions may vary across southeast Michigan.
