Detroit, MI – Thunderstorms could disrupt midweek plans in southeast Michigan as heavy rain potential builds Wednesday afternoon. The National Weather Service warns that developing storms may bring localized downpours capable of reducing visibility and creating ponding on roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, showers and isolated thunderstorms may begin Tuesday night, with a higher likelihood of more widespread storms Wednesday afternoon into the evening. Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and surrounding counties are most at risk, with the heaviest rainfall expected along I-94 and I-75 corridors during peak travel hours.

Drivers should watch for reduced visibility, slick pavement, and temporary flooding in low-lying areas. Outdoor events may need to pivot indoors, and residents should keep electronics charged in case of isolated power outages. While the risk eases late Wednesday night, a few lingering showers could continue into early Thursday before conditions clear.

Temperatures will remain seasonably warm, reaching the upper 80s Wednesday before dipping slightly into the low 80s Thursday. Sunshine returns to end the week, making Friday and the weekend ideal for outdoor plans.
