Detroit, Michigan – Heavy rainfall and strong thunderstorms are expected to hit southeast Michigan late Tuesday afternoon, bringing the risk of flash flooding, gusty winds, and travel delays during peak commute hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit, widespread showers began early Tuesday, with another round of stronger storms likely to develop between 3 and 9 p.m., primarily south of M-59. Wind gusts over 40 mph and intense downpours could lead to ponding on roadways, especially in low-lying or urban areas like Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Dearborn.

Storm activity will taper off overnight as a cold front moves through the region, ushering in cooler and drier air through the end of the week. Roads like I-94, US-23, and I-75 may see hazardous conditions during the evening hours, especially where storm drains clog or visibility drops suddenly. Drivers are advised to avoid flooded areas and reduce speed if caught in heavy rain.

Cooler temperatures and clearing skies return Wednesday, with highs in the upper 70s and a stretch of sunshine expected through Friday.

Additional advisories may be issued if storm development intensifies this evening.
