Michigan – Exhaust hangs in the air, snow squeaks under boots, and a biting wind cuts through layers as southeast Michigan wakes up locked in deep winter. Even brief exposure feels harsh, and conditions remain unforgiving.

A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect across much of southeast Michigan, including Detroit and surrounding counties, through Tuesday morning. Wind chills plunge between 15 and 20 degrees below zero at times, making frostbite possible in under 30 minutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, scattered snow showers move through today, producing a light dusting to locally 2 inches. While totals stay modest, bursts of snow could briefly reduce visibility, especially during the afternoon and early evening. Isolated snow squalls remain possible.

Roads along I-75, I-94, I-96, and the Lodge Freeway stay slick as temperatures struggle to rise. Highs reach the mid-teens at best, and any melting refreezes quickly. Flash freezing remains a concern into tonight as winds stay brisk.

Detroit sees another frigid night ahead, with lows near zero and wind chills well below. Tuesday brings some sunshine, but cold air holds firm. Afternoon highs hover near 20 degrees, with scattered snow showers lingering.

By Wednesday, skies stay mostly sunny, though temperatures remain cold, topping out in the upper teens. Gradual improvement arrives late week. Thursday and Friday bring highs back into the mid-teens to near 20, with calmer conditions but cold mornings continuing.

The broader 6–10 day outlook points toward drier weather with slow moderation heading into early February, though winter remains firmly in control across the Great Lakes.

Limit time outdoors, dress in layers, and plan extra travel time. How cold did it feel stepping outside in your neighborhood today?
