Detroit, Michigan – Residents across metro Detroit and southeast Michigan should stay alert as scattered showers and embedded thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon, potentially packing wind gusts up to 50 mph. Drivers and those with outdoor plans Wednesday afternoon into the evening could face sudden downpours and brief, gusty winds.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, showers and storms will be hit-or-miss after 2 p.m., with a 20–40% chance of activity stretching from Wayne and Oakland counties north to Saginaw, Bay City, and the Thumb. While widespread severe weather isn’t expected, isolated storms could create hazardous travel conditions with quick bursts of wind. Forecasters say the primary threat will be localized wind gusts, not hail or tornadoes, but residents should be prepared for changing skies and brief heavy rain.

More rounds of spotty thunderstorms are possible late Thursday and again Friday afternoon, especially from Ann Arbor east to Port Huron. Most of the region will trend drier by the weekend, with sunshine returning and temperatures climbing near 90 degrees Saturday and Sunday. To stay safe, secure outdoor furniture and avoid travel during heavy downpours. Spotter activation is not planned at this time, but updated alerts are possible if storms strengthen unexpectedly.

Warnings remain in effect for scattered thunderstorms through Thursday night, with additional updates expected as the situation develops.
