Michigan – Southeast Michigan residents can expect breezy conditions today, with temperatures reaching a high of 80°F, ideal for outdoor activities. However, residents should brace for a shift in weather starting Thursday, with potential showers and high winds leading into a Gale Watch on Lake Huron, effective from Thursday afternoon until Friday morning. Boaters, particularly around Saginaw Bay and Lake St. Clair, are advised to exercise caution as small craft advisories are in effect through Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Detroit/Pontiac, the Gale Watch will impact Northern and Southern Lake Huron, with southwest winds anticipated to sustain 20-25 knots and gusts up to 40 knots. Wave heights could reach 7 to 15 feet, posing a significant risk for small watercraft. Drivers along I-75 should also be cautious of strong gusts and changing weather conditions on Thursday afternoon and evening.
The five-day forecast shows a drop in temperatures after today. Thursday will bring a high near 74°F with a 50% chance of showers from late morning to afternoon. By Friday, conditions improve, with a mostly sunny day and a high around 67°F, though temperatures will cool further into the weekend. Saturday is expected to be clear and sunny but significantly cooler, with highs only reaching 57°F.
Looking toward the end of the week, residents can expect partly cloudy skies on Saturday night, with temperatures dipping to the low 40s. Sunday may see another round of showers, bringing a high near 60°F and signaling cooler autumn weather ahead.
For those planning outdoor activities, it’s best to prepare for fluctuating conditions and take extra precautions if boating in affected areas. Stay tuned to local weather reports for updates, and consider rescheduling outings to avoid hazardous conditions on Thursday and Friday.
